As we step into a new month the nursery is excited to prepare for all the different celebrations that are coming up! Chinese New Year, the year of the Tiger was first! The rooms got busy creating tigers and playing with resources that were the colour of the flag and talking about the Tiger and the reasoning behind the year of the water tiger! We also celebrated Waitangi Day ‘Kia Ora!’ our Butterflies discussed with carers the reasoning behind Waitangi Day and where it originates from! Ladybirds and Bumblebees created artwork and explored resources the colours of the New Zealand flag. As well as these celebrations we enjoyed celebrating the holiday of love! By creating cards for our loved ones, art pictures and discussing with our carers and friends about our loved ones we have at home!
Bumblebees had lots of fun exploring and developing their physical skills this month! With the aid of walkers we have encouraged lots of a younger bumblebees to grow in confidence and take their first steps!! We have also continued exploring messy play activities creating our own ‘beaches’ using sand, water and sea animals! Bumblebees thoroughly enjoyed splashing in the water and feeling the difference of dry and wet sand!
Ladybirds have re-introduced going for walks this month! Children and staff have thoroughly enjoyed going to see the trains and walking down the Alban way to collect leaves and sticks for activities throughout the day! Ladybirds have also explored sensory bags! With a variety of materials and resources within the bags the children have been able to discover and explore the different outcomes of their actions, for example when pushing down on cornflakes, ‘what noises can you hear?’ As well as shaving foam/paint and mixing the colours together in the bags and discussing the colours we can see!
Butterflies have enjoyed practicing their drawing of animals and names as well as creating their animals using play dough and cutters! They have then linked the animals they have created to stories and roleplayed with their friends! Butterflies have also enjoyed practicing their bowling skills using the pins and ball which are numbered, encouraging them to count how many pins are left standing and to work out how many are left to knock down!
