Happy New Year and welcome back from our well needed rest! We hope you all had a magical time and managed to spend it with loved ones! Throughout the nursery we thoroughly enjoyed welcoming Fen and tiny mites back with new songs!

Within Bumblebees we explored the story of the three wise men, Spanish tradition of Christmas. Our staff members discussed with the babies the story of the three wise men bringing presents to the baby born and encouraged to colour in pictures of presents and the wise old men. Throughout the month Bumblebees have focused on developing their physical skills of fine and gross motor skills. We have delved into activities such as gluing and sticking and messy play activities such as cornflour, flour and cornflakes.

As well as exploring messy play activities we have also developed our expressive arts and design skills through gluing and sticking activities using the same colours we see on the toy cars and animals.

Ladybirds have been very busy since coming back from the Christmas break! We have become scientists exploring new consistencies and mixing ingredients together as well as filling our mixtures into containers and sieving the mixture into the tray! We have also been busy matching our colours to different resources around the room using our fine motor skills whilst picking up the resources with tongs. We then ventured to discovering what doctors do and what equipment they use! We role played different scenarios using babies and stethoscopes to check their heart beats! Our carer then showed us where we put the thermometer and to ask the ‘patient’ to listen for the beep!

Our Butterflies have been extremely busy creating their own ‘cupcakes’ using different resources of rice krispies, cornflakes and even cous cous!! We have also enjoyed getting back into yoga mites and all our other fun outside activities! Through practicing our different poses, we are able to develop our understanding of mindfulness and ways to calm ourselves! When discussing about the world around us we began talking about where different animals live and what they eat, we collected all the animals and vegetables we could think of and linked them together! Our carers then asked us whether we eat those foods as well and where we think we may find them growing, if they need to be planted or grown on trees!

Throughout the whole nursery we celebrated Australia Day on the 26th! All children and staff dressed up in the Australian flag colours and carried out a variety of activities surrounding animals we may find in Australia and what we may find in if travelling over there!
