A big welcome back to everyone at Monkey Puzzle and we hope you enjoyed your festive break.

Bumblebees

In our baby room this month the bumblebees have been exploring the book corner independently. Our favourite series of books are ‘That’s not my…’ We enjoyed feeling the different textures in each book as well as looking for the mouse on each page. We also identify the animals in the books and repeated single words after our carers. We love our books very much and its inspired our carers to create our very own ‘that’s not my…’ touch and feel board in the room.

Ladybirds

In ladybirds this month we have been enjoying all things sensory especially our sensory playdough activities. Sensory play helps us build skills in so many ways, including cognitive development, strengthening gross and fine motor skills, enhancing imagination, and providing an opportunity to be creative and problem solve. We have added essence and natural resources to our playdough including orange, vanilla, lemon, and peppermint as well as flowers and herbs.

Butterflys

In our butterfly’s class we have were super interested in the world around us and habitats, we created a tray with the ocean, the Sahara and a farm. We spoke about the different climates, animals and people who live there, as well as our holidays. We developed this further by creating a green, gloopy swamp, where we searched for the big crocodiles and made a special farm tray using hay, oats, mud and the farmyard. We also looked at the environment a little closer to home and We went on a bug hunt down the Alban Way and picked up some sticks to bring back, we used the sticks to create bug habitats in the room. We used resin bugs and magnifying glasses to look through the sticks, grass, and leaves to find bugs. Once we found them, we spoke about their colours, legs and what they might like to eat.
