We started the month of June by celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which offered the opportunity to discover aspects of the English traditions and learn about the Royal Family. The whole nursery enjoyed taking part in a tea party consisting of sandwiches, cucumber sticks and homemade scones before kick starting their family celebrations over the bank holiday weekend.
Our little Bumblebees got physical this month as the beautiful weather allowed us to make the most of our wonderful outdoor areas. We practiced our climbing as we made our way to the top of the mound, stepped from stepping stone to stepping stones and rode around the garden on our ride along toys and cars. Inside the building we continued our physical development by working on our mark making, using crayons, chalks and paintbrushes to transfer marks onto their paper.
In Ladybirds we kick started our very own garden project to transform the small garden area. With our parents and carers we chose our own plants to bring in to the setting, these included some beautiful flowers, delightful smelling scents such as lavender and delicious fruit bearing plants such as blueberries and strawberries. This gave a wonderful opportunity to bring a little more of the toddlers home lives into the nursery as they share stories and photos about their own gardens, allotments and plants that they are growing with their families.
Our eldest children in Butterflies continued to show a keen interest in the world around them discovering various historic landmarks in the world, drawing them and moulding them out of playdough. We also spent time sharing stories about recent visits to the farm, creating large scale activities where we can use our experiences to recreate events sharing and comparing these with friends. We also continued our school readiness programme as we took part in PE lesson, running races and making our way around obstacles.
Some very hot weather provided the opportunity to bring the outdoors inside as children of all ages splashed in the paddling pools, built sand castles, took part in calming yoga sessions and creating their own yummy fruit ice lollies.
