This month we excitedly had our eggs delivered! As excited children and staff looked on to witness the ducks hatching, we spoke about the cycle of life of a duck and other animals which hatch! We very happily welcomed 5 little ducks to Monkey Puzzle Nursery! All children were able to explore and play with the ducks as staff set up paddling pools for the ducks to swim in! We sang them songs and waved goodbye as they went to live on the farm!
Bumblebees this month have been developing their exploration skills! Through the activities of messy and sensory play they have discovered new textures. Through this Bumblebees have developed their communication skills through the beginning of one worded requests and copying as well as gesturing and babbling! We have also developed our understanding of Makaton through encouragement of repetition and copying our older Bumblebees have become competent in understanding and signing; please, thank you, food and also nappy!
Ladybirds have enjoyed planting their herbs at the beginning of the month which will be transferred to their garden when they have begun to grow! Throughout the month the children and staff have eagerly awaited to see the first sprouts and have managed to transfer them to their garden where the children can observe them growing and discuss with their carers what they are growing and what they can smell! Ladybirds have also been reimagining their home corner, they have now got a fruit and vegetable stand where they store fresh fruit and vegetables for the children to explore and play with. This has developed their language and creative skills through discussions and role playing shop keepers and scenarios of which they have seen at home!
Butterflies have excitedly been learning and discovering the life cycle of our ducklings! Through discussions and images created by Butterflies they were able to compile a ducks life! Butterflies have also been planting rhubarb, tomatoes and spinach! They have been watering and watching as the sprouts appear throughout the day and discuss what foods are good for us and why we need to eat good food for our bodies!
Throughout the month the whole nursery has been busy celebrating holiday days! We created our own Welsh flags for St David’s Day and spoke about the animal we see on the flag! Staff and children excitedly dressed up for world book day! With all the different characters walking around the nursery there was lots of chatter about who we were and what book we were from! We extremely enjoyed story time as we read some of the children’s favourite books! We also listened to Irish music and created four leaf clovers to celebrate St Patricks Day and dressed as our favourite sports person for Sports Relief!
We would also like to wish all our mothers here at Monkey Puzzle a very happy Mother’s Day! We hope you enjoyed your care packages and enjoyed your days!
