This month the nursery has been very busy with the reintroduction of our outings for children of all ages. Our youngest children in Bumblebees took to exploring the Alban way, listening to the sounds as they crossed under the bridges while our Ladybirds made their way to see their favourite mode of transport at the train station. Butterflies further explored their interest of the way things grow as they studied the names, colours and the shapes of the leaves, petals and stems they found on the way down the old railway line whilst also learning about the history of the Old Station House.
It was a very sensory month in our Bumblebees rooms this month as they brought their love of our ‘That’s Not My…’ books to life. Our youngest children delved into a variety of hard, soft, rough, fluffy, wet and dry textures as their carers read to them. This also supported the use of single words in our baby room as many of them named the animals and modes of transport that they saw as well as making the corresponding sounds linked.
Our Ladybirds became scientists throughout May as they explored mixing textures together, furthered their motor skills as they learnt how to use pipette – all whilst wearing their wonderful science goggles. In the toddler room they also brought one of their favourite stories ‘Stick Man’ to life through an interactive tufty tray as many children recall their favourite parts of the narrative.
Butterflies became star bakers as they explored a variety of recipes, creating banana bread and cupcakes, from this they started to create their very own recipe book to share with others. The love of food also sparked many discussions about healthy eating giving the opportunity to choose their favourite fruits to create fruit smoothies to accompany their snack. As the summer draw closer many of our preschool children have been discussing their plans for the sunny months putting together a wonderful beach display using various multi media to create jelly fish, sand castles and flip-flops.
This month also brought along a fantastic occasions to celebrate different cultures and beliefs; Eid and Ramadan allowed the opportunity for us to learn all about the Muslim celebration, exploring different traditions such as Henna art and recreating the important stars and moons.
